Websites & marketing for cleaners and cleaning companies
There are 16,420 building cleaning firms registered in the UK, and the number has risen 30.9% since 2021. Here is how they win customers online, and what a cleaner’s website needs to do.
Cleaning is a trust business. Customers are letting someone into their home or office, often when they are not there, so they look for reassurance: who you are, how you work and what other customers say.
Cleaning also splits into very different services, such as regular domestic cleaning, end of tenancy, deep cleans and office contracts. A website that treats each separately is easier to find and easier to book.
The UK market for building cleaning firms
The number grew 30.9% between 2021 and 2026, well ahead of the +0.8% for UK businesses overall, so more firms are competing for the same customers.
80% of them have fewer than 10 employees, 20% are sole proprietors and 76% are limited companies. Most are small operations, so a clear, quick website is a genuine way to stand out from competitors who have not looked after theirs. The ten areas with the most firms hold about 29% of the UK total.

What a cleaner’s website needs to do
- A page for each main service (domestic, end of tenancy, deep clean, office cleaning)
- A clear explanation of how quotes and pricing work
- Insurance and any checks you carry out, described honestly
- Simple online booking or quote request
- The areas you cover and how regular cleans are arranged
- Reviews that mention reliability and trust
Mistakes we see
- Vague claims about quality with no detail
- No information on pricing or how it is worked out
- Hiding who will actually come to the property
- No simple way to request a regular clean
How we would approach it
- Bespoke web design. Clear services, trust information and easy booking.
- SEO. Customers search for the exact type of clean plus their town.
- Meta and Google ads. Local ads can reach people who need a clean, such as before a tenancy ends.

Questions from building cleaning firms
What should a cleaning company's website include?
Pages for each service, how pricing works, insurance and trust information, the areas you cover, reviews and an easy way to book or ask for a quote.
How can cleaners get more regular customers?
Make regular cleaning easy to understand and to book, collect reviews that mention reliability, and follow up with customers so they stay.
Should cleaners show prices?
Showing a starting price or explaining how quotes are worked out builds trust and saves time on enquiries that were never going to suit.
How many building cleaning firms are there in the UK?
ONS counts 16,420 building cleaning firms registered for VAT and/or PAYE in the UK for 2026. That figure excludes firms below the VAT threshold that are not registered for PAYE, so the real number is higher.
Where are most building cleaning firms based?
By number of firms, the biggest concentrations are in London, Birmingham and Leeds. Per 10,000 residents, Broxbourne, London and Tonbridge and Malling come out highest.
