Websites & marketing for electricians

There are 51,010 electrical installation firms registered in the UK, and the number has risen 7.2% since 2021. Here is how they win customers online, and what a electrician’s website needs to do.

Customers hiring an electrician are handing over something that affects the safety of their home or business, so trust matters even more than speed. They look for clear credentials, recent reviews and signs that the firm is properly established.

Electrical work also splits into very different jobs: urgent faults, safety checks, rewires, consumer units and newer work such as EV charger installs. A website that treats each as its own service is far easier to find and easier to trust.

The UK market for electrical installation firms

The number grew 7.2% between 2021 and 2026, well ahead of the +0.8% for UK businesses overall, so more firms are competing for the same customers.

93% of them have fewer than 10 employees, 15% are sole proprietors and 83% are limited companies. Most are small operations, so a clear, quick website is a genuine way to stand out from competitors who have not looked after theirs. The ten areas with the most firms hold about 19% of the UK total.

What a electrician’s website needs to do

  • A separate page for each main job (rewires, fault finding, consumer units, safety reports, EV chargers) so each can rank for its own searches
  • The scheme membership you hold, such as NICEIC or NAPIT, shown clearly and only if it is true
  • A clear split between domestic and commercial work, if you do both
  • A tap-to-call number and a short quote form on every page
  • Photos of tidy, finished work and genuine reviews
  • Plain-English explanations of what each job involves and how long it usually takes

Mistakes we see

  • Listing credentials you cannot back up, or leaving real ones off
  • One generic page for all electrical work
  • Jargon that makes customers feel out of their depth
  • No clear way to book an urgent visit

How we would approach it

  1. Bespoke web design. Credentials, services and a quick way to get in touch need to be obvious on a phone.
  2. SEO. People search for each type of job separately, so a page for each helps you appear for the right ones.
  3. Meta and Google ads. Search ads can bring in urgent faults and higher-value jobs such as EV chargers and rewires.

Questions from electrical installation firms

Should an electrician's website show NICEIC or NAPIT?

If you are registered with a scheme, yes: customers look for it. We only ever show accreditations you really hold.

What pages does an electrician's website need?

A page for each main service, a page for the areas you cover, a gallery of your work, reviews and a contact page. Separate pages help each job show up in its own searches.

How can an electrician get more enquiries online?

Make contacting you effortless on a phone, give each service its own page, keep your Google Business Profile up to date and build a steady stream of genuine reviews.

How many electrical installation firms are there in the UK?

ONS counts 51,010 electrical installation firms registered for VAT and/or PAYE in the UK for 2026. That figure excludes firms below the VAT threshold that are not registered for PAYE, so the real number is higher.

Where are most electrical installation firms based?

By number of firms, the biggest concentrations are in London, Buckinghamshire and Leeds. Per 10,000 residents, Epping Forest, Mid Ulster and Basildon come out highest.
